EDITOR’S COMMENT So here we are, another year ahead of us and, thankfully, a rather difficult 2023 behind us. But what will become of 2024? Are the gale-force winds that battered us as the new year began something of an omen, warning us of another stormy year, or have those winds blown the cobwebs away, readying us for a clearer, more focused year ahead?
Predictions for what 2024 may have in store are prolific in January, and we’ll have our own too, gathered through our extensive research of the market, pulling together the thoughts of all the big thinkers, plus insights from EG’s own data – the vast and most complete database of UK real estate deals that sit in Radius, plus our unique demand data gathered through EG PropertyLink. January isn’t starting off badly. There are expectations of rate cuts and mortgage providers are already reducing their rates. And while we are unlikely to return to 0.5% interest rates any time soon, normalisation feels like it might be just around the corner, and that can only be good for the sector.
So while there is a moment of optimism, I thought I’d use this first opportunity to outline just what you can expect from EG this year. Our resolutions for the real estate sector and our promises to you as we continue on our mission to help real estate be the best it can be.
Our biggest promise of the year is to continue to provide you with all the intelligence you need to thrive in the business of real estate. Knowledge is power and EG is your powerhouse.
Over the course of this year, we’ll be doubling down on our output, bringing you all the breaking news, deals and analysis you need to have a complete view of the market. We’ll be coupling our unique data with our expert journalistic team to ensure you have the most complete view of the market so that whether those winds that are blowing are the start of a storm or the end of it, you are prepared.
Whatever the economy, politics or the planet throws at us, EG will have you covered.
In 2024, EG also promises to come to you more than ever before. While the big deals and big money often makes real estate feel like a London-based business, we know the best stories come from all over the UK. So this year, EG will be on the road, coming to you to showcase your deals, your regions and how you are driving places forward through the work you do. The UK is open for business and we want to ensure we’re there, helping you showcase the investment opportunities this wonderful country and amazing sector has to offer. Keep your eyes peeled for a big piece of work we’ll be releasing at UKREiiF that will become an industry blueprint for exactly this.
And the final resolution? It’s one you’ll have come to expect from this EG editor and one I’ll stand resolutely by whether you like it or not. Challenge. At EG, we promise to continue to challenge you. We promise to continue to push your buttons, to sometimes annoy you and to sometimes have you thinking “what has this got to do with real estate?”
Why? Because everything has to do with real estate. You work in a business that affects every part of everyone’s life. That is a huge responsibility. Real estate is not just buying, selling, building and letting. It’s about creation of place, creation of lives and livelihoods. And we at EG have a responsibility to continue to remind you of that, to challenge you to be better at it and to support you wholeheartedly along the way.
And we promise to do that unapologetically because at EG, this year, for the past 165 years, and for every year going forward, we’ve got you.
Whatever this year throws at real estate, we’ll be here as your guide, your friend, your challenger and your powerhouse of insights. Happy new year.
