Ei Group shamed into supporting pub tenants

The country’s biggest pub owner has been shamed into giving more support to tenants by MPs.

Ei Group, which is part of the Stonegate Pub Company, has promised a “multimillion-pound support package” for tenants after MPs were “dismayed” with the lack of support being offered.

The group was told that its policy of only offering rent deferrals would lead to many pubs closing permanently.

It will now offer a three month “rent credit” to more than 4,000 pubs not receiving government grants. Those receiving grants will get discounts on future stock purchases.
