Eight in 10 renters in London are struggling to keep up with the soaring cost of accommodation.
Low-paid workers are being priced out of the capital, according to a survey of hundreds of renters in London by affordable housing charity Dolphin Living.
Of those struggling, a quarter said their rents are already unmanageable. The impact of rising rents on critical workers, such as nurses, teachers and carers, is “even more acute”, Dolphin Living said.
The average rent in the capital has risen by 16.1% over the past year to £2,343 per month, according to the latest data from Rightmove, which said it was the biggest annual jump it had seen since it began collecting the data.
