Election fails to dent demand for Persimmon homes

Persimmon reported an 8% on-year increase in the number of homes sold in the six months to the end of June, to 7,794, and described its trading performance as excellent.

Revenue was 12% higher at £1.66bn, while the average selling price for a Persimmon home rose 3.5% to £213,000.

The company experienced good levels of customer demand, and the market took the general election in its stride, it said. Chief executive Jeff Fairburn criticised the planning system, however, in particular the scenario where local authorities vote down applications against the advice of their planning officers. He also said a review of the green belt was needed.
