The visual effects company behind John Lewis and Sainsbury’s Christmas adverts has chosen Spitalfields for its new London headquarters.
Electric Theatre Collective has taken 11,000 sq ft on the penthouse floor of the Truman Brewery, 17 Hanbury Street, E1, on a five-year lease at £38 per sq ft.
The property, owned by Truman Estates, will be the new base of operations for the company, which has produced special effects in adverts for brands including Uber, Johnnie Walker, Indeed, Samsung, Vodafone, EE, Domino’s, easyJet and Apple.
This follows the appointment of newly formed development manager Grow Places to formulate a masterplan for underutilised elements of the historic site, which was once the world’s largest brewery, EG exclusively reported earlier this month. Public consultations at the location were launched on 8 December.
In April, EG also revealed that Dragons’ Den star Steven Bartlett had leased an 11,000 sq ft office building within the Truman Brewery estate as the base for his portfolio of companies, including marketing and communications firm Flight Story, as well as his personal branding team.
The millionaire entrepreneur, also known for his podcast The Diary of a CEO, has taken space in the building on a 10-year lease, with a five-year break option, for around £400,000 per year.
Other lettings at the site include David Beckham’s Guild ESports academy, which signed a deal to take 9,831 sq ft on a 10-year lease in January 2022.
Belcor and Thompson Yates acted for Truman Estates. Edward Charles & Partners acted for Electric Theatre Collective.
