Electricity rates for businesses could be halved under bailout plans

Electricity rates for businesses could be halved under government plans.

Business secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg will outline support on Wednesday, which could cut the non-domestic rate for electricity by 50% and the gas rate by 25%.

One of the UK’s leading pub chains has said it expects its energy bill to more than double, unless the sector receives government support.

Fuller, Smith & Turner, which has 385 sites across the UK, said it expected its gas and electricity bill to rise from around £8m to £18m.
