Telereal Trillium’s former chief executive Ian Ellis has been appointed chair of NHS Property Services.
Ellis joined the founding management team of Trillium in 1998, becoming chief executive following its acquisition by Land Securities.
After Trillium was sold to Telereal in 2009, he took on the role of executive chair of Telereal Trillium, becoming non-executive director on that board in 2014.
He is also chair of Arcus Solutions and an independent director of Portman Settled Estates, and sits on the real estate advisory boards of Kings College London and the Natural History Museum.
Ellis will join the NHS Property Services board on 14 March, taking over the role from Robin Williams.
He is the latest in a number of high-profile property professionals to join the company. Former CBRE chairman and chief executive Mike Strong took up the role of non-executive director on 1 February.
Ellis’ appointment comes as NHS Property Services continues its strategy of rationalising the NHS estate to raise funds and provide better facilities and services.
The body was set up by the Department of Health in 2013 and controls 10% of the NHS estate.
Health Minister David Prior said: “The government wants the NHS to become more efficient and use its resources as effectively as possible, including the use of its land and buildings, which are the most significant assets that it owns. I’m confident that this strong appointment will further enhance NHS Property Services’ ability to deliver real benefits to the NHS and patients.”
