Ellison Institute hub plans green lit at Oxford Science Park

Proposals for the new research and development facility to be delivered by the Lawrence J Ellison Institute for Transformative Medicine at the Oxford Science Park have been approved.

The project will sit on the 3.5-acre development site, which the institute bought a 150-year lease for. The development is also expected to be connected with the 5.9-acre Littlemore House, which the institute acquired in December 2021.

The proposed development will be designed by Foster + Partners and is set to reuse much of the existing Littlemore House as a collaboration space. The plans also include extensions to the existing structure to allow the delivery of the research laboratories, an imaging suite and an oncology and wellness clinic.

The extensions mimic the C-shape of the original Littlemore House structure, connecting the two buildings and resulting in a courtyard at its centre. The new facility will also feature a 250-seat auditorium.

David Agus, founding director and chief executive of the institute, said: “With the facility’s design focused on interdisciplinary collaboration and a location directly within the thriving Oxford biotech community, our researchers, clinicians and staff will be well placed to realise the connections and transformative thinking that will help us improve patient lives around the world.

“Securing planning permission is a major step towards making our vision for this facility a reality.”
