Emaar’s new tower to beat Burj Khalifa

Emaar Properties is planning to build a tower that will be a notch higher than the Burj Khalifa, the world’s current tallest building at 828 metres.

The project, designed by Santiago Calatrava Valls and part of Emaar’s Dubai Creek Harbour development, will cost $1bn. Work will begin in June, with completion set for 2020 when Dubai will hose the World Expo.

Mohamed Alabbar, the company’s chairman, said it wanted to build a new landmark. The tower will include gardens, an observation deck and up to 20 floors for restaurants, shops and a hotel.
