Martin Wheeler named exec chairman of Rengen Developments

Rengen Developments has appointed Martin Wheeler, as executive chairman.

Effective immediately, Wheeler’s transition from board advisor to an executive role is reflective of the continued growth of the Rengen platform, and its position as a UK market-leader in small format PBSA and co-living space.

The company has successfully delivered projects in cities across the South of England and Midlands, including Bath, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Exeter, London, Newcastle, Southampton and Worcester.

Wheeler has held leadership positions in real estate finance businesses since 2002. He co-founded Longbow Real Estate Capital LLP in 2006, has been co-head of ICG-Real Estate and was a former member of ICG plc’s Management Committee.

During his time leading Longbow and ICG-Real Estate, he was responsible for raising over £5bn of institutional or sovereign LP capital, and he oversaw more than £7bn of real estate investments.

In his role as executive chairman at Rengen, Wheeler will work closely with chief executive Iestyn Lewis to establish the company’s goals and corporate strategy.

He will guide the executive team in the implementation of effective corporate structure and governance, advise on corporate risk management and investment processes, build relationships with key stakeholders including employees, investors, lenders and advisers, and work alongside the management team in key decision making in capital markets transactions.

Rengen has established itself as a leading developer in the South of England and Midlands, having developed projects for its own balance sheet and partners with over £500m in GDV.

Lewis said: “We are delighted Martin has joined us as executive chairman and will help drive our next phase of growth and development as a company. We are now focusing on implementing the already crucial guidance he has given us in a non-executive capacity over the past two years. I have known and worked with Martin for many years now and his unique knowledge of the intricacies of the UK real estate and capital markets will be essential as we drive more growth within the platform. Rengen has a successful track record and, while increasing scale, remains laser focused on delivering successful outcomes for our clients and partners.”

Wheeler added: “Iestyn and the team have built an impressive business in the last 15 years, providing vital development and operational expertise for the previously underserved living sectors in the South of England and beyond. I am excited to have the opportunity to apply my experience building and growing real estate businesses to the Rengen platform as we deliver on our ambitious growth strategy.”
