Empiric buys Liverpool student scheme

Empiric Student Property is to buy the freehold of the Hahnemann Building in Liverpool for £10.8m.

The Grade II listed building on Hope Street was originally Liverpool Hahnemann Hospital and has been converted into a student accommodation scheme with 98 studio flats and communal space.

Hello Student will take over the management of the block on completion of the deal, which is expected in October.

Paul Hadaway, chief executive of Empiric, said: “The Hahnemann Building, our seventh acquisition in Liverpool, expands the group’s presence in the city to 480 beds serving 1% of Liverpool’s student population.

“Some 32% of the University of Liverpool students are from overseas, and the institution has experienced strong international and postgraduate growth in recent years.

“This acquisition is in line with Empiric’s investment criteria and returns profile.”
