Energy efficiency requirements just a year away

Energy efficiency requirements due to come into effect in a year’s time will prevent landlords from renting out properties that have an F or G rating – the lowest level of ratings that range from A to G – unless they have an exemption.

Residential landlords will need to make sure all tenancies comply with the requirements by 2020; for commercial landlords, the deadline is 2023.

Buy-to-let landlords are generally those who are less aware as they do not get professional communications, RICS director Gary Strong said, adding that it was a ticking time bomb.
