Aurora Energy Research has signed for 37,749 sq ft on a 10-year lease at St Aldate’s Chambers in Oxford city centre.
The deal is the largest letting in the city centre for more than a decade.
St Aldate’s Chambers is owned by Oxford City Council and was previously used as the council’s headquarters. It spans four floors and a basement and is located just off Carfax and High Street.
Ed Turner, cabinet member for finance and asset management, said: “For the council, it reduces our energy bill and provides a long-term income stream to help fund key services in an increasingly challenging financial environment.
“But it also enables the city to retain a growing local business, which provides jobs for Oxford residents and wider benefits for the city’s economy.”
Aurora has grown from its Oxford academic roots into a global company which is active in Europe, Asia Pacific, and the Americas. It provides market intelligence, bespoke analytic and advisory services, and software.
Adrian Chan, senior surveyor for commercial at Carter Jonas, which advised the council, said: “This deal solidifies Oxford’s position as a hub for excellence, providing businesses with a platform to grow and succeed as leaders in their respective fields, as well as being a positive outcome for both the city council and Aurora.”
