Ian Davis, chief executive of Enfield Council, is stepping down after 17 years at the council.
He is joining Lambeth Council as its chief executive.
Davis joined Enfield Council as assistant director of environmental protection and regulation, and became chief executive in April 2017.
Ergin Erbil, leader of Enfield Council, said Davis’ ability to deliver transformational projects for the improvement of the borough and the council had been “invaluable”.
Davis said: “It has been a pleasure and a privilege to work for this council and the people of Enfield over the last 17 years. I am incredibly proud of everything that we have delivered in Enfield. I will be leaving Enfield with a strong and energetic executive management team in place, and I am sure the council can continue to go from strength to strength.”
