The amount of office space in England has fallen by more than 18m sq ft during the pandemic.
The 2% drop over the 12 months to 31 March last year was recorded by the Valuation Office Agency, as construction slowed during lockdowns.
However, Savills said the figure was likely to have fallen even further since March, and would fall further still.
“It is reasonable to say this [reduction in space] is a trend going forward and a trend that needs to happen,” said Mat Oakley, Savills’ head of European commercial property research.
