English Heritage attacks ‘neglected’ civic buildings

English Heritage’s annual report on Buildings at Risk has slammed local authorities for their lack of care of some of England’s finest civic buildings.

Millions have been spent in some case on refurbishment but failure to find a long-term use for them has led to renewed dilapidation.

Examples cited include the West Pier, Brighton, East Sussex; St Pancras Chambers and Battersea power station in London and The Crescent in Buxton, Derbyshire. English Heritage also lambasted failure to maintain national landmarks and it said buildings were more at risk in the Midlands and north than in London and the south.
