English Partnerships buys Canada House, Sheffield

Government regeneration agency English Partnerships has bought Canada House, a 4,750 sq m (51,129 sq ft) office building in Commercial Street, Sheffield. Private-sector proposals to refurbish the listed building as modern offices have proved unsuccessful.

English Partnerships plans to convert the building, which is located in the Castlegate district, to a mix of commercial, leisure and residential space. The agency’s Paul Barber said: “The building has already had an unfortunate history of aborted schemes and has been neglected for some time. I want it to become an important focal point for the city centre once more.”
