Environmentalists are preparing to mount a legal challenge to the government’s £400m Birmingham motorway.
The privately financed northern relief road is the UK’s first toll-paying motorway. Environmentalists hope any delay will deter investors. They are hoping to capitalise on local opposition which has been further aroused by the planning approval that was granted for a £1.5bn semiconductor plant near the motorway on farming land.
