EP selects three for 70 hectare Telford scheme

English Partnerships (EP) has selected George Wimpey, Persimmon and Barratt to develop the 70 hectare Lawley scheme in Telford, Shropshire.

The £500m scheme involves the construction of 3,300 homes alongside offices, restaurants, bars, a primary school and shops on a brownfield site.

EP said that the new community would account for a fifth of the houses the town required over the next decade, with a quarter in the affordable category, split between shared ownership and social rented.

Announcing the appointment at EP’s annual open meeting, Chairman Margaret Ford said: “Lawley will be one of Britain’s most significant and exciting urban developments.

“It will set national standards on how a large sustainable community can be designed, created and integrated with an existing town.”

David Higgins, the regeneration agency’s chief executive, added: “Across the regeneration industry, we need to continue to present private sector investors with more and more attractive propositions, to significant increase levels of investment and accelerate the delivery of our programmes.”
