A developer is being sought for an 82-ha former RAF Locking base in North Somerset, one of the UK’s largest brownfield opportunities.
English Partnerships and the South West of England Regional Development Agency this week began the search for a developer to bring forward a major mixed-use scheme.
The former military training school near Weston-super-Mare was bought by EP and SWRDA from the Ministry of Defence in 2002.
An area development framework, which sets out wider regeneration plans for the town, proposes 25 ha of employment space and up to 1800 new homes.
Matthew Stead, regeneration manager at English Partnerships said, “We’re looking for a highly skilled, experienced development partner who shares our commitment to sustainable regeneration.”
GVA Grimley has been appointed adviser.
The preferred development partner is likely to be appointed next year with work starting on site towards the end of 2007.
