Islington Council has approved plans to refurbish London & Regional’s Epworth House, City Road, EC1. The 1930s block, which sits on the corner of City Road and Epworth Street, will be given an £11m makeover.
L&R wants to remodel the building, adding two floors and 10,000 sq ft to provide 87,000 sq ft of modern office accommodation.
The BuckleyGrayYeoman-designed plans include reconfiguring the interior space and main core of the building to create an atrium with more flexible floorplates and clearer connections between the three adjoined buildings which make up the complex.
BGY director Matt Yeoman said: “The challenge was to breathe new life into the building – and its mix of architectural styles – while remaining sensitive to the site’s prominent urban setting. Work is due to start on site early next year.”
