Essential tech for property people: smartphones

We have established that the property industry is rotten with phones, or smartphones at least.

Despite the rest of society becoming obsessed with that little screen that bleeps, buzzes or vibrates in our pocket, we remain, in the majority, a world apart. For such a social world it is truly bizarre.

What is going on? And does it matter? As with most things tech, many in property probably do not care. They still love their Blackberry. Who cares if they are part of just 0.5% of smartphone users. As we all know, property is a people business and face-to-face is where it’s at.

For some, this is true. Lucky them, but they belong to a dying world. Outside the property bubble the world is becoming mobile, and the smartphone is front and centre of this trend. Making calls is now a secondary reason for owning a smartphone.

Forward-thinking companies are providing staff with access to everything they might need to do their job, wherever they are. Sales, marketing, operations, finance, HR, everything is on tap. Not least so they can reconfigure their property requirements. Desktop computers now make up just 20% of internet use. Phones and tablets are nearing 40%.

It is vital to place mobile at the heart ?of your world. Get a proper smartphone and a tablet. Then use them to see what ?is possible. Then look at your company’s digital output. Chances are most of it won’t work very well. Then scream ?“Wake up.”
