Etap gets go-ahead for Glasgow Quay hotel

European hotelier Etap has been selected as the preferred operator for Heron International’s 165-bedroom hotel on the second phase of  The Quay, its £60m leisure scheme in Glasgow.

The budget hotel operator, part of the Accor Hotel group, was granted detailed consent last week by Glasgow council for the development at Springfield Quay, on the south side of the River Clyde.

This is the first venture in Scotland for the Europe-wide operator.

On completion, the second phase will total 245,000 sq ft, including a 65,000 sq ft casino, the largest north of the border.

Heron recently completed further lettings to restaurant chains Ask, Chiquitos, and Nandos.

The development is to include another three restaurants, two of which are under offer to Indian restaurant operator, Ashoka Shak, and a US-based steak n’ rib franchise.

Montagu Evans’s leisure partner and agent for Heron, Gavin Anderson, said: “The hotel is going to help let the two restaurant units remaining.

“This means the scheme will now hit critical mass with potential for more overnight stays.

“Etap is a budget hotel operator, so guests will not dine in the hotel.”

The 123,000 sq ft first phase was completed in 1996.
