Retailer Ethel Austin, which has 48 shops, has collapsed into administration for the fourth time.
The company, which was bought out administration last August by latest owner Ashloch, has appointed Duff & Phelps administrator of the business.
Duff & Phelps said shop store closures could not be ruled out, but it is continuing to trade the chain while seeking a buyer.
It added that it was urgently reviewing the firm’s financial position.
The stores trade under the Ethel Austin and Life & Style Retail names.
