Etopia expands to US and Saudi Arabia

Modular housebuilder Etopia Group has formed partnerships to expand into the US, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, as it pursues a strategy to establish a presence on all six continents over the next three years.

The group, which is backed by the billionaire Reuben brothers, said it is seeking expansion into the international market through partners and pilot opportunities after a “successful period in the UK and other territories”.

In the US the housebuilder has partnered with charitable organisation United Way of Long Island, to deliver an all-electric, low-carbon model home. It will apply its own build system to the project.

Etopia has also partnered with investment company SNASCO Holding in Saudi Arabia. SNASCO is setting up a manufacturing facility to produce building materials for the group, with an output of around 500 villas each year.

The project is targeting an increased output of 2,000 villas per year by 2026. The factory will be operational by Q4 this year.

Etopia said the Saudi Arabia partnership is aiming to support the country’s government strategy, which factors in advanced building materials, electromechanical systems and high-performance thermal insulation allied to efficient air conditioning systems.

Ricardo Costa, chief innovation officer at SNASCO, said the partnership will support Saudi Arabia “towards a sustainable future” and address its housing shortage.

Costa said: “Saudi Arabia’s difficult weather conditions and housing market circumstances have led to a demand for high performance construction fabrics and advance build methodologies – lowering energy consumption, improving liveability, and reducing the carbon footprint.”

The housebuilder has also completed construction on a test building in Riyadh’s Home of Innovation, through a partnership with chemical manufacturing company SABIC. It is being used as a showroom for technology in the region.

Alex Fink, group exececutive director at Etopia Group, said the business is searching for partners and pilot opportunities “to deliver net zero-ready sustainable homes globally”.

Alex Rius, head of Etopia International, said: “We are currently the first SIPS build system having a presence on four continents. No other panelised build system has made such a global footprint to date.

“We are still looking to expand internationally and are looking for partners in further territories, with the aim of being on all six continents by 2025.”
