EU funding opens up leisure and retail at Millennium Point, Birmingham

The awarding of £23.1m in EU funding to Birmingham’s Millennium Point is expected to open up retail and leisure development opportunities.

Millennium Point Trust Company plans to bring 6,000 sq m (64,585 sq ft) of retail and licensed and leisure opportunities to the market.

The Millenium Point project is located on Curzon Street and Albert Street near Digbeth will comprise a mixed-use element – known as The Hub – as well as a ’21st Century’ museum, and two hi-tech education and learning colleges.

Outline planning permission has been granted for the retail and leisure development and the entire scheme should be open by the end of 2001.

Millennium Point has been granted £23.1m in European Regional Development Funding along with a £50m grant from the Millennium Commission.
