Eurozone departure would be disaster

BCO 2015: A UK departure from the Eurozone would be a “disaster” for overseas investment, said the American editor of The Economist at the BCO conference in Chicago this week.

Robert Guest warned that uncertainty over the UK’s position in Europe was one of the few threats to the UK’s safe haven status among foreign investors.

He said: “It would be totally disastrous if the UK was to leave. At the moment it has the best of both worlds in that it doesn’t have the Euro but is still be a part of the union.”

But he added that a vote to leave would come as a surprise: “Luckily, I think the UK electorate is pretty cautious and quite measured.”
