Euston station redevelopment freezes again

Network Rail and British Land have halted plans for a £1bn redevelopment of London’s Euston station, NW1.

An Allies & Morrison-designed masterplan for the 15-acre site around the station has been put on hold Network Rail said, following the government’s approval of the HS2 high-speed rail project.

Initial plans for three new platforms, shops, offices and homes totalling more than 3m sq ft around the site, were delayed owing to the credit crunch.

However, the HS2 announcement for a Birmingham-Euston rail link, means more space will be required for platforms and the station.

Network Rail entered an exclusivity agreement with British Land in 2007 to let the developer create a scheme at the station. However, HS2 may now need to find a new development partner.
