It was another tough day at the office for some 153 property people who converged at the Duke of Buccleuch’s Drumlanrig Castle in Scotland for an event so demanding they probably wished they were, well back at the office.
Competitors travelled from far and wide to take part in the Buccleuch property challenge, a six-hour endurance test at the prestigious Queensberry Estate, that included mountain biking, kayaking, clay pigeon shooting, orienteering and archery.
Nailing the 40km course in just under four hours was Twa Phat Loons and a Gallus Bisom (in English, two fat lunatics and a brave woman) – a mixed team of John Shepherd of Whiteburn Projects, Andy Craig from Chris Stewart Group and Eve McCurrich of Stirling Developments.
There were man-hugs all round when the Cundall team crossed the line first in the all-male category, that testosterone-fuelled pack comprising Jim Allen, Tomás Neeson and Damien Dungworth.
David Peck, Buccleuch managing director, said: “This was the sixth time we’ve run the challenge and each year it gets better. Friendly rivalry was in abundance, with some teams now seasoned pros, mixed with plenty of first timers, which all contributed to a great atmosphere.”
Beyond the blisters and the war stories, the event raised more than £15,000 for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres.
