PedElle-2014-THUMB.jpegOn your bikes, women of property

Women of property, Spain needs you! There are too many boys’ club cycling networking events in the property world, and Tibbalds and event organiser Cycle To are doing something about it.

Now in its third year, the annual PedElle ride launched this week. The event, which takes place in June, aims to bring together women from across the built environment to take part in a three-day charity ride. This year’s route is 450km from Bilbao’s Guggenheim Museum to the Spanish capital Madrid.

PedElle is open to women of all riding abilities working in the property industry. It provides a fantastic physical challenge and an excellent opportunity to network and raise much-needed funds for Coram, the UK’s oldest children’s charity.

PedElle co-founder and Tibbalds partner Jennifer Ross said: “PedElle provides an opportunity to challenge yourself, do something really amazing and meet a diverse group of people from across the property industry.”

For more information and a look back at the past two years’ rides visit www.pedelle.com.

Shard draws crowds for art auction

One hundred artworks interpreting “views around the Shard” raised more than £100,000 at the charity event 10×10 Drawing in the City London, hosted at the London landmark.

Turner Prize winner Antony Gormley was one of a host of artists to donate work to the annual fundraiser for Article 25, which included a live and silent auction. His work, entitled Wait, fetched the highest bid of £6,500 at the auction, with Sotheby’s auctioneer Adrian Biddell in charge of the gavel.

Norman Ackroyd’s watercolour of the Shard went for almost 10 times the guide price, selling at £2,800. The auction closed on a high with a signed print of the skyscraper by the building’s architect, Renzo Piano, raising £2,500.

Shard developer Irvine Sellar was among guests from the capital’s architecture, design and property worlds at the auction, hosted by  Robert Elms of BBC London, on the 23rd floor.

Money raised will support Article 25’s healthcare building projects in the developing world.

CBRE team rises to mountainous challenge

A 20-strong CBRE team endured temperatures ranging between -5º and 30°C to reach the summit of Mount Toubkal in Morocco. At 4,167m, it is the highest peak in the High Atlas mountains and really tested the mettle of the retail team.

CBRE executive director David Brigden said: “The first two hours of the final ascent were in darkness and there was deep snow for the last 1,000 metres. Combined with the high altitude, it made the climb all the more challenging for a largely novice team.”

The team took two days to complete the climb and their efforts have so far raised almost £15,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society.
