While you are busy penning dates into your calendar of all the run/cycle/swim challenges you plan to do as part of your New Year’s resolution to get fit, take Yonni Abramson for inspiration.
In November the property investor and entrepreneur ran the New York Marathon in three hours 53 minutes. Even more impressive was his fundraising total of £25,000, including double donations from those who pledged extra money if he crossed the finish line in under four hours.
“Running the London Marathon two years ago was one of my greatest accomplishments. I swore I would never do it again. But who was I kidding, I needed the challenge,” Abramson said.
The runner, who owns niche London agency TSP and is also managing director of spin-off development company NorthHill, was running for the charity Norwood which supports vulnerable children, families and people with learning disabilities.
Agents and landlords go to great lengths
Agents and landlords will go head-to-head this autumn – or perhaps toe-to-finger – in a race across the Channel in the Agents versus Landlords English Channel swimming race on 26 September.
Supported by EG, teams of swimmers captained by Guy Bowring of Tuckerman (the agents) and Guy Glover of F&C REIT (the landlords) will be thrown in the deep end with a 21-mile relay swim from Shakespeare Beach in Dover, Kent, to Cap Gris Nez in France.
The competitors are already training hard and met at the London Aquatic Centre just before Christmas for a session.
Bowring said: “We’re all committed to the challenge and are determined to raise as much money as we can.”
The Royal Marsden Hospital has been chosen as the lead charity. Smaller charities will also benefit.
Challenge hosts ski clinic
Former British Olympic skier Graham Bell will help property skiers perform on the piste at Lambert Smith Hampton’s Ski Challenge and Business Forum in Courmayeur, in the French Alps, this month.
Bell, who represented Great Britain at five Winter Olympics in the 1980s and 1990s, will host a ski clinic for delegates at the three-day networking and skiing event from 29-31 January. It is now in its 28th year and is sponsored by Estates Gazette.
“The event has plenty to offer skiers of all levels of experience,” said Bell.
TV presenter and adventurer Bell joins London deputy mayor Sir Edward Lister and chairman of Urban Splash Tom Bloxham in the roll call of guests.
Ezra Nahome, chief executive of Lambert Smith Hampton, said: “The Ski Challenge and Business Forum is regarded as the industry’s leading skiing and networking event. Graham is one of the giants of the British skiing community and I am sure that all of us will benefit from the coaching he’ll provide.”
Law firms DWF and Wedlake Bell are also supporting the event. For details, visit www.lsh.co.uk/skichallenge
