JLL gives charity a sporting chance
Jones Lang LaSalle has been one busy agency this year, organising everything from furniture sales to endurance events, and in so doing has raised more than £200,000 for Samaritans.

The figure puts the firm five months ahead of its target, thanks particularly to a series of high-profile sporting events. These included the annual Property Triathlon and Property Swim in May, which included a record 2,400 competitors; a 5k run in Regent’s Park; and a “Cycle Sportive” in the Chilterns.

Cake bakes, treks and team cycling challenges topped up the pot.

JLL’s UK chief executive, Guy Grainger, said: “Samaritans is a fantastic charity and in today’s world, with tougher work and economic pressures and more people needing emotional support, it is up to companies like us to support the fantastic work of our charity partner and ensure we leave a legacy for its future growth.”

Music fundraiser gains altitude
Northamptonshire surveyors combined their musical talents to stage a charity fundraising event that attracted 500 of their peers.

Prop-Search’s Simon Toselan, Hadlands’ Peter Castle, and Drake Commercial’s Nick Roberts performed with their respective bands at Sywell Aerodrome, raising £4,260 for Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance.

Pedal to Paris targets £10,000
Eight cyclists aim to raise in excess of £10,000 by cycling from London to Paris.

The team from stone restoration firm Thomann-Hanry are cranking the gears over four days, covering the 300 miles to the French capital, including a gruelling 95-mile ride on day one, and will finish at the firm’s Paris office.

The event is the latest in a string of ventures for the team’s serial cyclist challenger Juan Cortizo, who is looking to set up a more formal challenge on behalf of the firm next year.

The cycling collective has trained in excess of 100 hours per week since the beginning of summer in preparation for the ride, which is in aid of Great Ormond
Street Hospital.

London’s grandees launch MIPIM UK
The great and good of UK property celebrated the launch of MIPIM UK last Thursday.

The ceremony, hosted in the opulent ballroom at Claridge’s hotel, was attended by the likes of London deputy mayor Sir Edward Lister, Alderman Sir Michael Bear and Portland Estates’ Toby Courtauld.

MIPIM UK, which will take place on 15-17 October next year, will be an offshoot to the long-established MIPIM, held in Cannes, the biggest event on the property calendar.

Lister said: “We need a large property conference in London and we need to bring together all the different sectors of the market, whatever they may be. Agents, architects, designers, developers – we need them all because we’ve got to increase housing production in this city dramatically.”

MIPIM director Filippo Rean said MIPIM UK would be much more “project driven” than its European counterpart.

Brookfield Multiplex is top of the links
Brookfield Multiplex took top honours at the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award property golf day.

The “Dubai BM Team” – Martin Chalmers, Gavin Knowles, Nick Petricola and Stephen Smith – outplayed 18 teams to secure the EG trophy on a perfect autumn day at The Grove, Hertfordshire.

Teams from Capital & Counties, Delancey, CBRE, EC Harris, Mishcon De Reya and others took to the links, while golf pro Sophie Horn kept them on form.

The event also raised total of £34,034 for charity.

Atlantic crossing for rowing pair
In just a few weeks surveyor Dan Howie will embark on an epic rowing adventure across the Atlantic.

Howie, who works for Edgerley Simpson Howe, and his friend, Will North, are taking part in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic rowing race, known as one of the toughest endurance races on earth. Howie and North will row around the clock in two-hour shifts for anywhere between 40 and 90 days and cover 2,933 miles.

They are raising money for Cancer Research UK, Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, and St Anna’s, and aim to raise £200,000.
