Gladesmore-1000pxCushman & Wakefield goes back to school

A school study area funded by Cushman & Wakefield’s Schools Around The World charity, including money raised by the firm’s gruelling 7 Towers in 7 Hours event, supported by EG, has opened.

The “Success Lounge” at Gladesmore Community School in Tottenham, N15, was unveiled by Lord Heseltine, Sir Stuart Lipton and David Lammy MP.

The £250,000 raised included £100,000 from the tower climb in September 2013, and £5,000 from a 500-mile cycle relay.

The Success Lounge provides a study area for students before, during and after school, and on Saturdays. It has capacity for 100 students, including an IT room for up to 30.

Many of the pupils who will use the building do not have access to computers at home or a quiet and safe environment to study in.

Tony Hartney, headmaster, said: “I am humbled that so many wonderful people at Cushman & Wakefield strove so hard to help us. It is simply phenomenal and we are immensely grateful.”

Robert-Bartlett-300pxBartlett’s big challenge

Chestertons’ Robert Bartlett is marking his 50th birthday by taking on one of the running world’s biggest challenges.

He will compete in the notorious Marathon des Sables in Morocco’s Sahara Desert, running the equivalent of six marathons, 284km in total, across the hostile landscape.

He aims to do the six-day endurance test to raise £20,000 for Walking with the Wounded.

Racers must carry everything they need for the duration of the race in their backpack and can expect extreme weather conditions such as sand storms and temperatures of up to 50°C. To donate visit

On track for success

M&R-Velo-1000pxA crack team of Mills & Reeve cyclists triumphed on the track at the St James Velo Games, a property sportive in the Olympic Park Velodrome.

The developer hosted 22 teams of four in a team pursuit event, played out over a series of heats after competitors received coaching by track experts. The Mills & Reeve outfit were crowned overall winners with a time of 1.10.95 (equalling an average speed of over 50kph).

The law firm’s Matthew Hammond also took first prize in the ‘rollapalooza’ with a time of 22.17 seconds (average speed 81kph). David Hawkins was second with a time of 22.85 (average speed 79kph).

The sportive in January raised £22,000 for the Berkeley Foundation.

Regen-dinner-1000pxRegeneration puts Trust in property

TV property guru Kirstie Allsopp and a host of property and heritage enthusiasts enjoyed the spirited atmosphere of the Prince’s Regeneration Trust gala dinner.

An extraordinary crop of auction prizes reflected the Best of British theme of the 26 February event, held at Kensington Palace.

Anglophile and US author Bill Bryson and comedian Griff Rhys Jones attended, and also donated auction lots, which included a walking tour of Windsor Great Park and tea with Bryson, and a stay on Rhys Jones’ farm in Wales.

TV presenters Kevin McCloud, from Channel 4’s Grand Designs, and Steven Moore, from BBC’s , boosted the celebrity headcount.

The trust aims to save loved buildings and drive regeneration in deprived areas.

Punters gallop to the pub to help LandAid

Scores of property pundits were under starters’ orders during MIPIM, eager to catch the televised Queen Mother Champion Chase as EG hosted its first Cheltenham Festival at MIPIM event.

Ladies and gents piled into Morrison’s Irish Pub in Cannes, where a sweepstake raised money for LandAid and paid the backer of the winning horse – Chris Carrick from London-based agent Collier & Madge, who drew Dodging Bullet.

The event was supported by Bluefin and Xavier Pullen Advisers, which, with the sweepstake, helped raise more than £1,300 for LandAid.

Derby-1000px

A race for housing

Derwent Living chief executive Peter McCormack last week cycled one metre for every house that needs to be built each year in the UK to meet demand. He covered the distance – 240km in total – with three colleagues from the Derby-based housing provider on 17 March.

They left from the new Derby Arena, and timed their arrival in the capital with the Homes for Britain rally, raising awareness of the country’s housing shortage.
