Running for a relay record
The head of Colliers International’s city offices, Simon Crotty, hopes to see his name in the next Guinness Book of World Records after taking part in a 12-person endeavour to relay run from John O’Groats to Land’s End in less than six days.
The team will set off on 28 April to run the equivalent of eight laps of the M25, or 1,500km (923 miles) continuously, from the tip of Scotland to the bottom of England.
To break the record, each person will need to keep a 12km per hour pace and cover two-thirds of a marathon every day.
Crotty’s teammates, who are parents from his children’s school in Tunbridge Wells in Kent, all agreed to do something “monumental”.
“I completed the London Marathon twice, once in 2011 and last year, and cycled from the west to the east coast of Scotland in 2013, so another challenge was on the cards for 2015,” Crotty said.
The challengers aim to raise £50,000 for children’s Alzheimer’s charity Niemann-Pick Research. To donate, go to www.npjogle2015.co.uk
Fundraisers limber up for the big push
Twenty thousand press-ups in under five hours sounds like the fantasy of a demented personal trainer. But it was a challenge embarked upon by staff from St Anns shopping centre in Harrow, north-west London, to raise money for St Luke’s Hospice in Harrow.
Centre manager Pieter Strömbeck from JLL and operations manager Shaun Wall from Incentive FM, who came up with the idea, joined teammates Daniel Lewis, Lorenzo Kerr, Sammy Al Ali and Wilson Emmett to smash the 20,000 press-ups in four hours and 45 minutes. They beat teams from rival mall St George’s and Fitness First, both also in Harrow, which completed just over 19,000 and 18,000 press-ups respectively.
The competitors raised £2,500. www.justgiving.com/stannsshopping
