Cricket board bowled over with charity support

English Cricket board director Lord Patel and former Indian cricket national Kiran More lent their star quality pitchside to Prideview Properties’ fourth Cricketers’ Cup. The heavyweights witnessed a thrilling event this month, which raised £13,630 for the Big Hug foundation, helping deprived children in south Asia, particularly Nepal.

Twelve teams took part in a five-over format, with players watching the draw unfold in real-time over social media ahead of the event at Merchant Taylors’ School in Northwood, Middlesex.

Some post-tournament number crunching revealed 1,530 runs were made in 18 games at an average economy rate of 9.3 runs per over, with 71 wickets taken and 35 sixes smashed.

In the final, Jade Pharmacy put 48 runs over Logicare to take the cup.

But the men didn’t have all the fun; a new “bowl-out” tournament saw 30 women aim for the stumps, with Misha Patel taking the inaugural honours.

 Sun shines on young entrepreneurs

The sun was out, the young were out and 200 property industry entrepreneurs raised a glass to London’s wealth of opportunities at the Young Entrepreneurs in Property’s annual summer barbecue. The event, at the Queen of Hoxton in Shoreditch, EC2, on the 21 July, was sponsored by BWI.

Coniston-570pxTurley staff rise to the challenge

A lionhearted band of Turley staff spent a weekend testing their physical limits in the Lake District for charity.

The Manchester planning consultancy entered three teams in the Coniston Challenge on 11 July, which saw them cycling 18km through Grizedale Forest, kayaking 3km across Coniston Water, then climbing 10km to the top of The Old Man of Coniston.

The teams raised £7,000 for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, with one team member scooping “fastest kayak of the day” for a 48-minute paddle.
