Property’s cycling spree gathers pace
As winter turns to spring, so begins property’s new-found obsession with cycling as the networking activity of choice.
May sees the second annual Carter Jonas Yorkshire Pedathlon. The sportive, through the undulating Yorkshire countryside, takes place on 8 May and offers three distances – 40, 70 and 90 miles. It is hoped this year’s event will raise £20,000 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Land Aid.

If images of this year’s Cycle To MIPIM on the previous two pages have whetted your appetite to take part in a ride that is the closest you will ever feel to being part of a professional peloton, then why not check out some of Cycle To’s other rides this year.
The ladies played a key role in this year’s Cycle to MIPIM, leading out the peloton for a two-hour stage after lunch on each day of the ride.
And the 12-strong female team certainly showed the boys a thing or two and had many casting envious glances at their slick operation at the top of the peloton.
So, women in property, why not check out this year’s PedElle, a special women-only ride organised by Tibbalds? This year’s ride will travel from Bilbao to Madrid on 10-13 June. Whether you are a new starter or an old hand on the bike, the peloton needs you.
Contact Rhian Fletcher on 020 7520 0339 or e-mail rhian@cycle-to.org for more.
And why not finish the year with the CBRE Cycle To MAPIC? This year, the ride switches from the Milan to Cannes route it has weaved for the past two years to take in a more challenging four-day journey from Barcelona to Cannes. Covering about 750km and including some lung-busting climbs, the event takes place on 13-17 November. For more details, visit http://cycle-to.org/index.php/mapic/
Carnaby fashions new skills
Shaftesbury and Creative Media Network are helping to fast-track the careers of 10 City of Westminster College students.
The Carnaby Street, WC1, owner is backing a skills and development programme for students interested in media, fashion and branding. They will be mentored by industry influencers, including people from Carnaby Street brands, and earn internships and accredited qualifications.
The programme runs alongside the opening of a Deal Real Legacy pop-up shop on 18 April, which will feature in-store gigs from Tinchy Stryder and Kate Tempest (pictured).

Agents and landlords in the swim
EG recently attended a training session for the chaps going head-to-head in the Agents v Landlords relay swim across the Channel later this year.
We intercepted the swimmers before a post-workout beverage and coaxed them into striking a pose, which we know they will regret, having seen this page.
The swimmers take training very seriously, with some of them having maintained their strict schedule while at MIPIM (see our MIPIM in a Minute video at www.estatesgazette.com/videos).
A series of competitive swims is being arranged ahead of the main event, which is on 26 September, including a cold water swim in Argent’s Kings Cross pond, and the 2.25km JLL Property Swim in July.
The Channel challenge will see two teams of five, captained by Guy Bowring of Tuckerman (the agents) and Guy Glover of F&C REIT (the landlords), swim a 21-mile relay from Dover to Cap Gris Nez.
They are raising money for the RNLI, Macmillan Cancer Research, Royal Marsden Hospital, ReThink Mental Illness and the Peter Westropp Memorial Trust.

The ski is the limit for Pippa
Pippa Middleton joined Paralympic champions last week to launch the first ParaSnowBall, sponsored by Jamie Ritblat’s Delancey.
Middleton, a keen amateur skier herself, was among medallists and snowsport enthusiasts, including Heather Mills, at the Cumberland hotel, W1, to celebrate Great Britain’s Disabled Snowsports team and fundraise for Disability SnowSport UK, a charity that encourages physically disadvantaged people to take part in snow sports.
The event’s host was BBC broadcaster John Inverdale and there were speeches from Middleton and some Paralympians, as well as a Q&A with the athletes.
A silent auction raised £50,000.
LandAid grants help youngsters
LandAid has awarded four £450,000 grants to local building projects across Britain, which will help 3,000 youngsters.
Each grant was presented alongside free professional expertise from LandAid partners Land Securities and GVA.
The projects will deliver life skills to those experiencing social and economic disadvantage. They include hostel accommodation in Nottingham, a training kitchen and classroom on a Bristol city farm, alternative education facilities in Leeds and a sport and learning space in London’s Fitzrovia.
