Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre has won the coveted RIBA Stirling Prize, Britain’s most prestigious architecture award.
The theatre has been the bohemian heart of the city for decades, and Haworth Tompkins’ design for the new building was an attempt to reproduce the old spirit in a new structure.
Runners up included Renzo Piano’s Shard, Zaha Hadid’s Olympic Aquatics Centre, Mecanoo’s Birmingham Central Library and O’Donnell + Tuoumey’s Saw Swee Hock building for the London Scholl of Economics.
