Tens of thousands of council tenants face eviction after failing to pay their rent, according to figures from Thomson Reuters.
The number of repossession orders made by councils and housing authorities this year has risen by 13% to 115,976. It is thought that rents have been made unaffordable by the squeeze on housing benefit caused by the ‘spare-room subsidy’.
Meanwhile, evictions by private landlords have risen just 1.7% to 23,582.
