The London 2012 Olympic Games should cost no more than £6.5bn, according to PY Gerbeau, the French national best known for running the Millennium Dome.
Gerbeau’s estimate represents a £3bn saving on the current budget which is expected to reach £9.3bn.
He believes the complicated organisation structure around the Games and the Olympic Delivery Authority is one reason the Bill has risen above expectations.
“We should one central board and directors who are accountable for what they do. The more opaque the structure, the less responsible people are for the budget.”
Gerbeau also served as an adviser to Barbara Cassani, who led London’s successful 2012 bid.
