Ex-US consulate is India’s most expensive home

The US government has sold a former maharaja’s mansion in Mumbai for around £73m, a record high for a residential property in India.

The mansion was once the US consulate but was put up for sale about four years ago, after new premises were found for the consulate.

The purchaser is Cyrus Poonawalla, one of India’s richest men and the head of a vaccine company.
