A new event to salute excellence in the retail sector was launched last month at MAPIC, now in its 15th year and held at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes. Winners across nine categories in the MAPIC EG Retail Awards were announced at a dinner attended by 270 of the sector’s key players
The 2008 MAPIC EG Retail Awards took place on 20 November at the Hotel Martinez in Cannes, where the nine winners were announced during a gala evening attended by 270 of the retail sector’s leading figures.
The awards were announced over dinner following welcome speeches by Thierry Renault, deputy managing director of Reed MIDEM, and EG Retail editor Noella Pio Kivlehan.
The judging panel, which had convened in September in Paris to deliberate over the entries, named Orta Gayrimenkul Yatirim Yönetimi ve Turizm developer of the year. Urban regeneration of the year was Belfast City Centre Regeneration best eco-initiative of the year was Modus Properties for Grand Arcade shopping centre, Wigan and retail success story of the year was Koton. Retail personality of the year was David Leino of Abercrombie & Fitch.
Desigual of Spain was named the best concept of the year best shopping centre of the year was Cabot Circus, by the Bristol Alliance consultant of the year was Cushman & Wakefield and the outstanding achievement award of the year went to Apple.
Launched this year, the MAPIC EG Retail Awards, organised by Estates Gazette and MAPIC, are designed to recognise excellence in retail property during the previous 12 months. The overall sponsor of the awards was Dubai World Trade Centre, with category sponsors Aldar Abu Dhabi, Dubai Festival City, ING Real Estate and Marketing International.
