Exchange rolls out carpet HQ plan

Brinton's Carpet CGI BIG

Local developer Exchange Street Properties has unveiled plans for a new leisure and retail development in Kidderminster town centre, Worcestershire.

A planning application has been submitted to Wyre Forest district council to transform the Grade II-listed former Brinton’s Carpet headquarters into a prime leisure destination.  Plans include a sympathetic restoration of the 42,000 sq ft building which will create around 20,000 sq ft of retail and restaurant space, with a primary frontage to Riverside Walk including a separate building with a frontage to Exchange Street/Town Hall Square leaving room on the upper floors for further development.

John Campion, cabinet member for planning and economic regeneration said: “The district council has exciting plans to transform the public realm in Kidderminster during the course of the next year that will see improved spaces from Exchange Street through to the Bull Ring and High Street and we welcome proposals that bring that will bring that vision to life.”

A planning decision is due later this year. Subject to consent, work is likely to start on site late 2014 or early 2015.
