Exclusive Bhs joins House of Fraser as anchor tenants in Castle Quays, Swansea

Bhs is set to join D H Evans in the 13,935 sq m (150,000 sq ft) first phase of Castle Quays shopping centre in the redevelopment of Swansea city centre.

The retailer is believed to be in negotiations with developer Simons Estates to take a 4,645 sq m (50,000 sq ft) store including 2,787 sq m (30,000 sq ft) of sales space.

This would keep its level of representation in the city centre constant but as it currently trades off 2,878 sq m (30,000 sq ft) in a 6,503 sq m (70,000 sq ft) store, it will occupy a more efficient unit.

Both the former Bhs store and the former D H Evans outlet would then become available for Simons’ overall redevelopment of the town centre. Earlier this week it emerged that House of Fraser, which owns D H Evans, is looking to take a 9,290 sq m (100,000 sq ft) department in the first phase of the new development.

According to letting agent Mario Bortolozzo of Donald Bortolozzo Griffths, the second phase of the development will feature retail units of up to 650 sq m (7000 sq ft).

An outline planning application for Castle Quays was submitted to Swansea Council last month.

Donald Bortolozzo Griffiths, King Sturge & Co and Stephenson & Alexander are joint-letting agents on Castle Quays.
