EXCLUSIVE BT launches search for offices in Sheffield and Preston

BT has launched a search for new offices in Sheffield and Preston as part of its Workstyle 2000 programme.

The telecommunications giant is looking for 6,503 sq m (70,000 sq ft) in the Lancashire town and 5,574 sq m (60,000 sq ft) in South Yorkshire.

BT’s search is part of a wide-scale reorganisation of its property in the north west which has resulted in the company identifying over over half a million sq ft in office requirements in major northern conurbations.

According to BT’s Chris Oakes: ” We see [Sheffield and Preston] as key for our regional representation although they are not as important or as large a location for BT as Leeds or Manchester.”

In Sheffield the company occupies 8,826 sq m (95,000 sq ft) in Telephone House, Carter Street on a lease which expires in 2013. Oaks said: “The requirement is longer term because we can’t assign the lease so we will have to do a double deal in which the new landlord takes over our existing lease.”
