A 13ha (32 acre) city-centre development site is about to come on the market in Bristol.
Residential developer Countryside is already thought to be talking to the landowner City of Bristol College about pursuing a residential scheme on part of the land.
The site at Ashley Down is in a conservation area and is to be put up for development by the college, which owns the freehold, in consultation with the city council. Partial demolition is an option. The college has occupied the site since the mid-1800s.
There is some 46,450 sq m (500,000 sq ft) of accommodation on the site. Three of the buildings are Grade II, but the college is planning to remain in two buildings of some 18,580 sq m (200,000 sq ft).
“Any ideas must fit in with our development brief and then we will bring them to English Heritage,” said Geoff Haslam, project manager at the college.
The City of Bristol College is unrepresented.
