Exeter Science Park has launched a hunt for an investment partner to inject up to £200m of capital in the next phase of development.
The move comes as the stakeholders of the 70-acre park, namely Devon County Council, the University of Exeter, Exeter City Council and East Devon District Council, are working on the implementation of a local development order aimed to simplify the planning process.
Outline planning permission is already in place for six, campus style clusters of buildings, measuring 822,000 sq ft, where research and development, office and industrial space will be built alongside conference, hotel, retail facilities, a café, crèche and health and fitness space. The new capital would help to deliver the next phase of development by 2035.
Exeter Science Park, which was established in 2009 and opened in 2015, sits at the heart of the South West’s innovation corridor, adjacent to the M5 and a short distance from Exeter city centre.
The Science Park Centre is positioned at the heart of the park, offering a public café, co-working desks, event spaces, offices and labs. It is surrounded by the Ada Lovelace and George Parker Bidder buildings and a 142-room Zeal Hotel completed earlier this year.
Sally Basker, chief executive of Exeter Science Park and chair of the UK Science Park Association, said: “Exeter Science Park is contributing to the transformation of the economy of the south-west by delivering jobs, productivity and economic growth.
“We’ve achieved so much, yet we are only part of the way along our journey to develop a science park which will stimulate a knowledge-based economy, delivering better jobs, higher productivity and economic growth for the region. We are now poised for the next exciting phase of our development.”
