Whitbread, Premier Inn’s parent company, has secured planning permission for a new Premier Inn hotel and restaurant on Exmouth seafront, adding 60 bedrooms to its 550-bedroom development pipeline across south-west England.
Whitbread is investing more than £5m in the hotel and restaurant, which will be built on the site of Elizabeth Hall, a council-owned community hall on Exmouth Esplanade.
After confirmation of planning consent – which is subject to conditions – Whitbread will begin clearing the site. It aims to have Premier Inn Exmouth open by Christmas 2014.
John Bates, head of acquisitions for the UK and Ireland at Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants, said: “We continue to see strong demand in the South West from business travellers and those on leisure breaks. Expanding our network across Cornwall, Devon and south Wales is a priority, and we have hundreds of new Premier Inn bedrooms either in construction or secured in our development pipeline across the region.”
