King Sturge has appointed Alastair Newman from its Manchester office to head industrial agency in Liverpool.
Newman doubles King Sturge’s Liverpool team, joining Chris Prescott at its offices in India Buildings, Water Street, which it has run since 1998.
It aims to expand the team from two to 15 by the end of next year. Administrative staff are also being recruited and a graduate trainee will be appointed in the New Year.
Newman, a partner in King Sturge, has 15 years experience in the north-west property market.
King Sturge advises a range of Liverpool and Merseyside clients, including Girobank, Mersey Docks & Harbour Company, urban regeneration company Liverpool Vision and Speke Garston Development Company.
Prescott said: “Growth of the Liverpool office signifies a major step forward in our activities in the Merseyside area at a time when the prospects for Liverpool continue to improve.”
The move comes at a time when an increasing number of Manchester-based and national property players are showing more of an interest in Liverpool.
The interest stems from the high volume of publicly backed schemes under the lucrative Objective One, European Commission programme which is to commit £850m by the end of 2006.
Rival agent Lambert Smith Hampton recently expressed an interest in opening a Liverpool office and is believed to be searching for a relatively small local practice to buy as a foothold in the city.
