Extra housing and offices added to First Street

Manchester City Council and Ask Real Estate have updated their plans for the £500m First Street regenerationNumber-One-First-Street-Manchester-THUMB.jpeg scheme to add an extra 1.1m sq ft of office space and 1m sq ft of housing.

Previous plans for a food store and hotel at First Street South have been scrapped in favour of extra housing due to what a council committee said were “changes to the retail market”.

The 20-acre site located between Manchester’s Deansgate and Oxford Road rail stations will now see a higher density of development.

At First Street Central, the development will increase from between six and eight storeys to between seven and 11 storeys – making way for an extra 1m sq ft of offices to meet high market demand.

The updated scheme also shows plans for an extra 1m sq ft of residential and student accommodation and 45,000 sq ft of retail and leisure.

Phase one of First Street was completed earlier this year, with Patrizia-owned Number One First Street offering 180,000 sq ft of grade-A offices occupied by companies including engineering firm Jacobs, Ford Credit Europe and Gazprom.

A 208-bedroom Melia INNSIDE hotel and contemporary theatre HOME were launched in May.
