F&C wins Dunstable consent

F&C REIT has been granted planning consent for the £51m redevelopment of a Bedfordshire industrial estate into a mixed-use scheme.

The firm plans to redevelop the 16.5-acre Dukeminster Industrial Estate in Dunstable as 200 houses, plus 31,000 sq ft of commercial space including offices, shops and a nursery. The development will also feature a 75-bedroom care home.

The estate comprises a variety of dilapidated or cleared sites that have been vacant for several years.

Maurice Fitzgerald, development director at F&C REIT, said: “The final design evolved through extensive discussions with the council officers establishing an excellent working relationship as well as responding to local requirements. The site offers real potential to deliver a sustainable development on a brownfield site.

“The project includes community benefits and provides a comprehensive mixed use approach to the site with family homes, a nursery, retail units and a care home.”
